Position Overview

The University of Vermont Health is seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Anesthesiologist to join our collaborative care team serving Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH) in Plattsburgh and Alice Hyde Medical Center (AHMC) in Malone, New York. This is a unique opportunity to practice high-quality, personalized anesthesia care in a scenic and welcoming region.


Practice Details

  • Primary Location: CVPH – a 300-bed community hospital with 9 operating rooms and an Ambulatory Surgery Center.
  • Care Model: Direct 1:1 patient care.
  • Team Structure: 10 anesthesiologists and 4 CRNAs across both sites.
  • Call Schedule:
    • Equally shared among anesthesiologists.
    • Typically includes one 24-hour first-call and one 24-hour second-call per week.
    • Second-call providers are generally released by 1 PM the following day.
    • Home call is permitted with a 15-minute response time.

Work-Life Balance

  • Flexible Scheduling: Options to adjust call volume based on lifestyle preferences.
  • Shifts: Two 8-hour shifts (pre-first call, post-second call) plus ~30 additional shifts annually.
  • AHMC Coverage: Minimal—1–2 days/month, focused on outpatient procedures (GI, ortho, podiatry).
  • Time Off: 200 hours of PTO and 10 CME days annually.

Clinical Environment

  • Procedures: No open-heart, intracranial neurosurgery, or intensive pediatric cases.
  • Trauma: CVPH is a Level III Trauma Center; higher-acuity cases are transferred.
  • Technology: EPIC EMR across the network.
  • Teaching Opportunities: Engage with family medicine and emergency medicine residents.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $489,481 
  • Sign on Bonus: $50k 
  • Time Off: 200 hours of PTO and 10 CME days annually.
