Summary

Central Vermont Medical Center (CVMC), a partner with University of Vermont Health, is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our growing outpatient General Neurology practice in Berlin, VT.  This new position will help expand our established Neurology department by focusing on headache and migraine care. 

In this ambulatory care role the NP will work with a supportive team of neurologists, nurses, medical assistants, and administrative staff to deliver high-quality, coordinated, and comprehensive care for common and complex neurologic disorders.  The NP will work collaboratively with neurologists to care for a combination of shared and own panel of patients through assessment, diagnoses, treatment, procedures, and education of neurologic conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive neurological assessments, including history taking, physical exams, and interpretation of diagnostic testing.
  • Manage and monitor chronic headache disorders and other general neurology conditions including memory disorders like mild cognitive impairment or dementia, neuromuscular conditions like neuropathy, movement disorders like tremors, seizure disorders like epilepsy, and other functional neurological disorders.
  • Routinely perform procedures such as use of toxin for chronic migraine, nerve blocks, and trigger point injections for treatment of headaches.
  • Potentially perform procedures such as intrathecal medication pump refills and lumbar punctures depending on demonstrated mastery of skills during onboarding and training.
  • Initiate, adjust, and monitor medications in accordance with evidence-based guidelines and scope of practice.
  • Provide patient education on lifestyle modifications, medication adherence, risk factor management, and disease prevention.
  • Coordinate care across specialties and services, including pre- and post-procedure follow-up, referrals, and testing.
  • Document clinical findings, treatment plans, and progress notes accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Provide divisional support during dedicated administrative time through administrative tasks like assisting with complex prior authorization, performing peer to peer reviews, and working on quality improvement projects.

Schedule

This is a 1.0 FTE exempt position that will be scheduled to work Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm and will include 32 patient-facing clinical hours and 8 hours of non face-to-face clinical time each week.

Experience

  • Ideal candidates will have two or more years of full-time clinical NP experience
  • Preference will be given to candidates with at least one year prior experience in neurology
  • New NP graduates with prior direct patient care experience and clinical rotations in neurology who demonstrate strong interest in the field may be considered

Education, Licensure, and Certifications

  • Masters or doctorate from a nurse practitioner program approved by the Vermont Board of Nursing or equivalent state or national accrediting agency required
  • Current certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or an equivalent body required
  • Active or eligible VT State APRN license in good standing required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification required
